Throughout the 1970's and 80's Swifty sightings increased alongside a growing local population. Several citizen led inquiries into the matter were initiated as well as supposed covert government studies. In 1982 a group of government researchers posing as a local family was accidentally outed in a local newspaper article. One of these researchers later claimed that significant progress had been made in their documentation of "aquatic extraterrestrial biological entities living in the Swift Creek Reservoir and other fresh and salt water bodies of water." This researcher claimed that the study was part of a larger special access program exploring communication with nonhuman intelligence through the implementation of remote viewing."
